About North Woods Timber Frames Inc.

North Woods Timber Frames Inc. is owned and operated by Bill Spangler. I have a degree in mechanical engineering and have been involved on a part time basis in building and finish carpentry for 25 years. My office and business is located in our model home on Lake Redstone in LaValle, Wisconsin. I built the conventional portion of this home in 1979. Two years ago I moved permanently to Lake Redstone to pursue my dream of building a timber frame home and business that would provide prospective clients the opportunity to view first hand the beauty and dramatic impression that a modern day timber frame home or addition can provide. In talking with people it became obvious that in the Midwest, because it has just recently been gaining popularity, most people are not that familiar with this age old form of construction. Therefore, I hope you take the time to tour this home which is currently under construction, as the pictures reflect. We are confident that you will not regret this experience!

Prior to establishing my company I spent two years learning about this form of construction and researching timber frame companies in the US and Canada. The end result was joining forces with Black River Timber Frames located in Medford Wisconsin about two hours north of this area. Black River Timber Frames was established in 1996 by the owner Darin Spencer. His experience and education began with an apprenticeship from Goshen Timber Frames in North Carolina and continued with Fox Maple School of Maine's Advanced Timber Framing. I chose Black River for a number of reasons but most importantly their white pine timbers and handcrafted joinery are beautiful and we are geographically close to facilitate their direct involvement in the timber raising process. The timbers are locally grown white pine for strength, minimal shrinkage, value and most importantly beauty. Other wood species are also available.

The other main components of my team are the local contractors and building supply companies with which I have formed relationships. All are well known and trusted in the Reedsburg, Wisconsin Dells, Baraboo, Mauston area. It became evident in my initial discussions with the local contractors, although very good in their areas of expertise, were not at all familiar with timber framing and structural insulated panel installation. I feel very confident that with North Woods Timber Frames Inc. as your general contractor, combining the talents of Black River and decades of years of experience with local trusted contractors, you will have the confidence your building experience will be a memorable one. The end result will be a timber frame home that will offer inspiration and beauty now and for generations to come.
